At the PPE Society we strive for intellectual and professional growth, through an interdisciplinary and open-minded approach.
We offer a space where people with a genuine interest critical thinking can get together to discuss and learn from each other. We want to stimulate critical thinking and discussion around ‘hot topics’ between the society’s members and the university community at large by:

Runing bi-weekly society meetings where we discuss a topic of choice

Holding monthly conferences and panel discussions with experts from inside and outside the university

Organising joined events with other societies

Publishing weekly articles written by our members on the society website, Instagram and LinkedIn page
We offer opportunities for professional development and support our members with their careers thorugh:

Our 'Student Module Directory': it helps students pick modules right for them, as students who have previously taken modules share their thoughts and opinions with other society members.

Giving members the opportunity to write and publish articles on our website.

MEET THE EXECS
Beatrice Carniato - President
Hey everyone! I'm Beatrice. Originally from Italy, after two years in the States, I came back to Europe to study here at Essex. I am currently in my second year studying PPE with a placement year. I like to travel and to cook. My biggest passion, however, is to learn as much as possible from life. This is why I am involved in many things - societies, volunteering projects, you name it! You will always find me running around to get to meetings, webinars, classes and everything in between in time. I don't know yet where life will bring me. What I do know is that I can't wait to see it happening.
Matteo Musso - Vice President & Treasurer
Hello, my name is Matteo. Last year I completed a placement scheme at Essex County Council and I am now back to university to complete the final year of my BA degree in PPE. Philosophy is my favourite subject, and throughout my studies I have particularly enjoyed studying Marxist Theory, Critical Theory and Heideggerian existentialism. I enjoy playing sports, long walks and photography.

Sam Hardy - Secretary
Hello there! I'm Sam and I am currently in my final year of studying PPE. During my year abroad I studied in Japan, while there I became particularly interested in human rights and immigration ethics. In the future I am hoping to make a positive impact in the world by promoting equality in society and supporting people in need. In my spare time I enjoy producing music, collecting house plants and watching old films.
Peter Tsoukkas - Editor-in-Chief
Hi! I’m Peter and I am the Editor-in-Chief of the PPE Society. I’m in my last year of my ungrad studying Philosophy with a year abroad. My philosophical interests lie in: existentialism, race, contemporary political philosophy, and philosophy of sport. I developed my philosophical interests in Canada, in my year abroad, and I find particularly interesting how structural systems in society affect people existentially. I also love travelling and learning from new cultures!
Kieron Franks - External Relations Officer
Hi! I’m a 2nd year PPE student, with a particular focus on the Economics and Public Policy sides of the specialism. I’m also involved with lots of other groups both on and on campus, including the Liberal Democrats party and Show Choir!
